Nothing says Halloween like a Beard Papa's cream puff filled with pumpkin custard. (+ the chocolate and brownies I just ate)

:: Happy Birthday to Me ::
Alvin and I celebrated my birthday eve at Upstairs at Bouley Bakery. Critics have called this tiny eatery "jumbled" and "schizophrenic", but it was a perfect spot for me -- I can always have a little of everything. The menu featured sushi, Japanese, New American, and Italian dishes. Everything we ordered was delicious. Simple preparations of the main ingredient, paired with sophisticated sauces and sides which complemented the flavor. Two of my favorites:
Grilled lamb chop with zucchini mint purée, potato purée and sherry glazed roast eggplant
Kamo Nsu -- grilled Japanese eggplant and marinated Long Island duck breast with a mustard dashi and micro greens

My actual birthday started out with blueberry pancakes and 2 dozen red roses. We went hunting for my gift that afternoon. Had a cheeseburger. Then headed out to celebrate with a bunch of my friends.
Alvin had set up a prix fixe dinner at Markt, a Belgian place in Chelsea (was in Meatpacking District). Great food, great beers...and suprisingly fantastic desserts. There was also a giant red velvet cake involved at the end. My friends were saying it reminded them of our wedding -- neverending food. We ended up giving away half the cake to other tables since we just couldn't look at food anymore.Fire hazard. They were short 4 candles too!
Post-dinner festivities took place at the Flatiron Lounge, where I was the last one standing at the end of the night. I guess even though I'm getting old, my friends are even older! Haha...

:: Congrats, Howard and Angela ::
My brother-in-law, Howard, and Angela are finally married! Ok, I guess we weren't really waiting that long. It only took them exactly one year after they met to get engaged in their own unique way on Halloween (in front of like 50 of their friends...and his mom...on his birthday...in costume...)
The festivities took place in the Washington DC area. We barely made it down in time for rehearsal. Alvin was the best man. I was...hungry. So Erwoo and I opted to get some Costco pizza instead of waiting around for our husbands to learn how to walk down an aisle. We then headed over to China Garden in Arlington for a Chinese banquet rehearsal dinner.Alvin with mini grandma
Wedding guests stayed at the Westfields Marriott in Chantilly, VA. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone planning a wedding in the area. It's newly renovated and really beautiful. The hotel bar was rockin for the two nights we were there (there were 3 other weddings staying there). The breakfast buffet is also really great, complete with fresh waffles, omelets, and smoothies. And crispy bacon -- Till now I had thought that crispy buffet bacon was just a myth. There are also a ton of conference rooms available at the hotel for events such as the Chinese Tea Ceremony.
Wedding day was a blur of flash bulbs and stiff cheeks. Even if it's not your wedding, you're pulled in a hundred directions by a hundred relatives into countless group photos. I don't remember my own wedding to be this camera-stressful. I think when you're actually the bride people feel bad for hogging you. However, when you're a nobody family member, people don't feel so bad for making you stand there till all 25 cameras have clicked. And then repeat when one more relative straggles in and you have to do a group shot all over again.
The ceremony took place at Foxchase Manor in Manassas, VA. Howard and Angela were blessed with beautiful weather this weekend. It was perfect for their late afternoon outdoor ceremony. Their ballroom was beautifully and DIY decorated with crystal strung "trees", jewel-toned to go with their aubergine color scheme. Howard and Angela had somehow gotten an army of friends and groomsmen to pitch in to help execute the big day. Even more impressive was that they got the bar to serve Bubble Tea! Definitely a nice treat after being on our feet all day.
All in all, a really fun weekend with family and friends, old and new. And now the two lucky ducks are off to Tahiti for ten days. Opa!

:: I'm seeing stars...::
Update: Now I can add one more: Chris March from last season's Project Runway was just in my office (in a leopard print blazer, no less). He said he had Christian Siriano's number on his cell...does this count as 1.5 star sightings?
For someone living in Manhattan, my list of celebrity run-ins is pretty short. In the past 5 years I’ve:
1. Walked by Famke Janssen, with her two equally tall and regal dogs shopping in Soho.
2. Had dinner with Chien-Ming Wang.
3. Ran between Joe Girardi and Terry Francona's cars during the All-Star/Hall of Fame Parade.
4. Stumbled upon Ramiele Mulabay in my work bathroom.
5. Maybe had Derek Jeter's car drive by me -- It was this sporty Lexus with completely tinted windows with Yankees plates reading "CAPT02".
I'm proud to finally add one more to the list: NKOTB!
They were about to head into an interview at the WPIX studio this morning. Got a pic with Joey, but it's on some random chick's camera and she promised to email it to me. Only got good pics of Donny since I was too busy deleting old pics off my phone while Jordan and Joey were standing literally 2 ft in front of me. Doh!
What are your memorable celebrity sightings?
